Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials announced they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have asked to the community for tips.
An important political figure commented the incident made him speechless and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
